Ship Worker Injury Settlement

On October 3, 2007, a crew member aboard the M/V Galena Bay ship tripped on chains improperly stored on a ship’s deck.

“The defendant failed to keep the deck free from unnecessary hazards and maintain and inspect the deck properly,” says Houston attorney Rob Ammons.

“Overseas Galena Bay LLC and OSG Ship Management, Inc’s failure to provide a seaworthy vessel for my client to perform his duties resulted in my client’s spine and right hip and thigh sprains. As a result, doctors have recommended he have a total right hip replacement.”

The injured worker claimed it was only after his fall that welders boarded the vessel and made necessary repairs to the chains so they could be safely connected to posts storied off the deck.
