Michelin and Ford Compensate Heirs of Rollover Victim

The Ammons Law Firm has won compensation for the widow, children, and parents of a 28-year-old Texas man. The man died after the left rear tire on the Ford F150 he was driving failed through tread separation. After the sudden tire disablement, the Ford F150 pickup rolled over and its roof crushed, killing the driver.

The tire that failed was a Michelin LTX. The lawsuit claimed that the tire was defectively designed and manufactured by Michelin.

It was also alleged that the F150 had a weak roof structure that did not hold up in the rollover crash. Rob Ammons claimed the roof collapsed over the driver’s head, causing his fatal injuries.

According to the lawsuit, the tire that failed was older and had more tread wear than other tires on the pickup. Because the best tires should be positioned on a vehicle’s rear axle to provide the safest handling, the tire business that positioned the older tire at the left rear position while better tires were on the front was also sued. Along with defendants Michelin and Ford, Ammons secured a monetary settlement from the tire business; the amounts of the settlements are confidential at the defendants’ insistence.
