Ford Compensates Victim of F550’s Roof Collapse in North Dakota Rollover

Rob Ammons secured compensation for a man who sued Ford after being seriously injured in a rollover crash. The man, 35, was a belted passenger in a 2012 Ford F550 Super Duty pickup when its driver lost control in a curve, causing the pickup to leave the roadway and roll over. As the pickup rolled, its top collapsed.

Wrecked Ford F550

In the lawsuit, Ammons alleged that the F550 was designed and manufactured by Ford with a weak roof structure that cannot withstand the heavy pickup’s weight in rollover crashes and with seat belts that don’t couple an occupant to his seat. According to Ammons, the man suffered facial fractures and a closed head injury as he moved into the pickup’s roof as it collapsed over his head. $150,000 in charges were incurred in treating the injuries that Ammons claimed would have been prevented by a strong roof and effective seat belts.

“While I am happy my client is being compensated, he should never have been injured in the first place,” says Ammons. “F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks have some of the weakest roofs of any production vehicles, but despite its Built Tough slogan, Ford chose to do nothing to fix that. Its choice had devastating consequences for my client.”
