4 People Killed in Construction Zone Crashes on U.S. 287 near Hedley

Deadly Construction Crashes Cause Concern

Construction zones can be extremely dangerous for drivers, even when they follow all applicable traffic laws. Recently, residents in Hedley, Texas have grown concerned about a construction zone on U.S. 287 that has seen three tragic crashes in the first months of the year – and taken the lives of four people.

In the first crash, two women were killed when a semi-truck collided with their SUV on January 6th. Before the month had ended, there were reports of another fatal crash on U.S. 287 near Hedley. On January 27th, an eastbound truck steered into the left lane to avoid a stopped semi-trailer. At that exact moment, a westbound vehicle driven by Ronald Simpkins collided with the truck, ultimately killing Simpkins and injuring one of the truck passengers.

Finally, there was a third tragic crash on Wednesday, February 19th, when Andrew Cliffor Ericson was killed in a tire blowout accident on northbound U.S. 287 in Clay County. The accident is currently being investigated by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Dedicated Representation in Construction Accident Cases

The CDC estimates that between 1982 and 2017, over 27,000 people were killed in construction work zone accidents. While many of these victims were workers or pedestrians at the time of the accident, vehicle drivers also face significant crash risks in construction zones. Highway construction zones like the one on U.S. 287 often present the highest risk of fatal injury, as high speeds can easily aggravate poor construction planning.
