Alex Pancardo Jr. killed in Lubbock rollover

LUBBOCK COUNTY, Texas — Alex Pancardo Jr. tragically lost his life Dec. 12 in a one-vehicle rollover accident. He was just 24 years old at the time of his death.

Pancardo Jr. was driving northeast at about 4:32 a.m. on Parkway Drive when the accident occurred, according to a local news report. He lost control of the Pontiac Grand Am he was driving at a curve in the 3400 block of the roadway, leading the vehicle to leave the roadway and roll.

Emergency response personnel transported Pancardo Jr. to University Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The only other vehicle occupant, 26-year-old Jose Rubalcava Jr., was transported to University Medical Center with injuries authorities described as moderate.

Officals have not released any other additional information about Rubalcava Jr.’s condition or the ongoing crash investigation.

A rollover fatality seems to come across my desk on a daily basis. In my 30 years as a practicing personal injury attorney, I have seen hundreds, even thousands, of similar cases. Yet, I am still disturbed every time I learn of another rollover that ends someone’s life prematurely—in this case, a very young man who had many years ahead of him.

Here, Mr. Pancardo Jr.'s vehicle appears to have rolled after he lost control of the car on a curve. Authorities have not reported the factors that contributed to this terrible accident, and it is important not to jump to conclusions or lay blame on any one party. Rollover accidents are complex matters with intricate parts. For instance, was the vehicle crashworthy to begin with? In other words, did the manufacturer produce the car to protect the occupants in the event of a rollover?
