Maria Hernandez killed in 2-vehicle accident on Domenigoni Parkway

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. — Maria Hernandez, a 43-year-old Hemet woman, died Oct. 15 in a two-vehicle crash on Domenigoni Parkway west of State Route 79.

Hernandez was eastbound in a 2007 Toyota Yaris on Domenigoni Parkway when her vehicle veered to the left, entered the center median, and passed a slower moving vehicle before entering the westbound lanes and crashing head-on into a white Dodge pickup truck, according to the California Highway Patrol. Hernandez’s vehicle overturned and came to rest on its side.

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. A witness told the California Highway Patrol that she was traveling at a high rate of speed, according to a local news article.

The 35-year-old woman and 36-year-old man in the pickup suffered minor injuries, though one of the victims was trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued by firefighters. Both are residents of Winchester.

COMMENTARY ON ROLLOVER ACCIDENTS

News of this accident is disconcerting and leaves the reader with many unanswered questions. Why was Ms. Hernandez driving at a “high rate of speed?” Why did she veer left into on-coming traffic? Was she having a medical emergency of some kind, such as a heart attack or an aneurism? Was there a malfunction in the steering mechanism of her vehicle?

We are not able to ascertain answers to any of these questions from the authorities released. However, there is no question that this is a very tragic accident which will require a thorough investigation to unravel.

Accidents like these are very complicated and require a high level of experience to settle equitably and responsibly. I have handled hundreds of cases across the nation similar to this one, and I know firsthand the pain and suffering the victims and their families incur as a result. My sincere condolences go out to Ms. Hernandez’ loved ones in their time of grief.
