David Rubrecht Killed In Semi-Truck Accident

Bexar County, Texas — David Rubrecht tragically passed away on Sept. 3 after his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on the northeast side of San Antonio.

The San Antonio Police Department told a local news outlet that Rubrecht was westbound on Toepperwein Road near the Loma Azul Street intersection when his vehicle slammed into an eastbound tractor-trailer that had exited the nearby San Antonio Auto Auction parking lot.

Rubrecht succumbed to his injuries while he was being transported to the Brooke Army Medical Center for treatment, according to the news report. He was just 65 years old.

No additional information on the cause of the accident or SAPD’s investigation was immediately released.

This accident unfortunately reminds me of a case I recently handled. My client’s husband was tragically killed when his car smashed into the side of a semitrailer. At first glance, it appeared my client’s husband was at fault for failing to yield. However, after closely examining the vehicles involved in the accident, we discovered the semitrailer was not equipped with a protective siderail. The lack of a siderail allowed his vehicle to underride the trailer, crushing the vehicle, and killing my client’s husband.

Until more evidence emerges and an exhaustive investigation is completed, it would be disrespectful to assume Mr. Rubrecht’s death was the result of a company failing to install a siderail or any other specific factor. However, I have seen too many deaths occur when large corporations seek to save a few dollars by neglecting known and necessary precautions to rule out the possibility. I will continue to do what I can to hold those corporations accountable.

This accident deserves a thorough investigation to ensure the victim and his family’s rights are protected. Until then, it is important to focus on supporting Mr. Rubrecht’s grieving loved ones. My heartfelt condolences go out to his dear family as they navigate the devastating loss of his life.
