EMERY COUNTY, Utah— An unidentified semi-truck driver was seriously injured in a rollover crash on August 22, 222, around 12:30 p.m., between Highway 29 and the Trail Mountain Mine in Cottonwood Canyon, Utah.
According to the local police office, the 59-year-old driver was leaving a worksite while hauling a track hoe on a flatbed trailer. The semi-truck rolled over into a steep ravine, causing a brief interruption of traffic flow in the Canyon. The semi-truck driver was transported to a nearby hospital for the treatment of his injuries.
Since the semi-truck driver does not remember the incident, the exact cause of the accident is not known, although reports suggest the driver could have been traveling too fast for the road conditions.
No further information about the crash was made immediately available.
The truck driver may be able to recover compensation for injuries
While speed may have been a factor in this accident, it is important that investigators not assume negligence on the part of the semi-truck driver without looking into other possible causes for this accident. For example, our firm has represented victims of crashes where a mechanical defect caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in catastrophic accidents.
Often, semi-trucks roll over because they are not equipped to handle the load they are hauling or because they lose the functioning of a critical system (such as steering or braking) while traveling downhill. Either scenario could explain why a 59-year-old semi-truck driver experienced such a frightening accident. However, investigators might be prone to overlook those small details in favor of resolving a case quickly.
