A 58-year-old man was killed in a crash after being hit by an 18-wheeler on State Highway 176 in Texas

MARTIN COUNTY, Texas – One man died on November 12, 2022, after a semi-truck hit his pickup at an intersection on State Highway 176 in Martin County, Texas. The exact time of the crash is currently unknown.

According to news reports, the pickup truck driver was traveling west on SH 176 while a 2003 Freightliner semi-truck headed north on County Road D3400. Reportedly, the Freightliner failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of CR D3400 and SH 176. The semi-truck crashed into the side of the pickup.

The semi-truck driver escaped the accident unharmed, but the 58-year-old pickup driver died immediately upon impact.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing. No further information is available.

The decedent's family must be able to pursue justice after their loved one's sudden death.

From the facts presented, it seems reasonably clear the truck driver was at fault in this accident. Even so, the truck driver may not be the only party that shares in the liability for this tragic incident. Under a specific legal doctrine, employers can be held responsible for their employee's actions. With the help of an experienced personal injury attorney, the victim's family may obtain compensation from both the truck driver and a commercial trucking company, easing the financial burden caused by a sudden loss of life.

While semi-truck drivers must remain vigilant while driving, their employers and commercial trucking companies must also ensure that their drivers are qualified to be on the road. Aside from practicing careful hiring techniques, employers must provide their drivers with adequate training. Truck drivers must know about the risks to themselves and others by taking control of such a large vehicle. A trucking company can still be held accountable even when a truck driver acts negligently and disregards that responsibility.

Here, a family is left without a loved one due to the negligence of a truck driver. With sudden loss comes immense financial burdens, such as funeral costs and unforeseen bills, which can quickly affect a family's ability to move forward. Attorneys can help victims' families recover the financial compensation needed to move forward. Skilled personal injury attorneys can identify all responsible parties and determine whether insurance policies may cover all or part of a family's costs. More importantly, lawyers can help families pursue justice for their loved one that passed away prematurely.
