An 11-vehicle crash on I-45 and SH-242 killed two people, including a motorcyclist.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – Two people died in a multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on I-45 North Freeway and SH-242. The crash happened on December 6, 2022, around 11:15 p.m.

Reportedly, a police officer conducting a traffic stop witnessed a motorcyclist traveling southbound at a high rate of speed on I-45. Then, the officer saw the motorcyclist exit the freeway onto the northbound feeder lane before striking a Lexus that was also turning onto the roadway. The motorcyclist was ejected and thrown into a ditch near the road, and the motorcycle continued across multiple lanes of traffic, where the bike was hit numerous times.

Part of the motorcycle came to rest in front of a vehicle. When a driver got out of his car to move the bike, another driver struck the vehicle, hitting the man and throwing him across the median. A separate part of the motorcycle was dragged under a semi-truck for several hundred yards. In total, eleven vehicles became involved in the accident.

In addition to the two deceased individuals, an off-duty Houston Police officer was injured while trying to assist others in the crash. No other injuries were reported.

Authorities closed I-45 in both directions for hours following the crash. The accident remains under investigation currently. No further information is publicly available.

Victims may obtain more answers about this accident from an independent investigation.

This crash is incredibly complicated and will require additional investigation to determine how the accident played out. While police continue investigating the crash site, victims and their families can consult with skilled personal injury attorneys to parse through the factors that may have contributed to this accident or increased the risk of injury or death.

Personal injury lawyers are trained to go beyond the investigation of the crash site and look at alternative causation factors. In doing so, attorneys can ensure crash victims receive the appropriate justice from all wrongdoers. For example, police might determine that the excessive speed of the motorcyclist caused the crash. However, other drivers' actions may be important when determining accountability. Without a personal injury attorney, victims may be limited to the authorities’ findings when seeking to recover from the wrongdoers for the injuries and harm sustained.

This is a terrible wreck that will impact many people. It will be important for those wrongfully impacted to receive the answers and closure they need to move forward.
