“I have been prosecuting serious injury and wrongful death cases against trucking companies, auto makers and tire manufacturers for more than 30 years. Our firm maintains this blog to share information and insight on transportation safety issues that continue to arise on our nation’s highways and roads.”

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn.— Nelson Jorge, a 50-year-old Southbury man, was critically injured Jan. 13 in a rollover crash on Route 7 in Brookefield.

Jorge was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 on Route 7 North near Exit 12 when the accident occurred, according to local police.

Authorities believe the truck rolled after it veered off the roadway for an unknown reason, struck a guardrail end in the median, and then veered across the road, into a shoulder, and up an embankment.

Firefighters responded to the crash at about 2:50 a.m. and found Jorge still inside the truck. He was removed and transported to Danbury Hospital with injuries that appeared to be life-threatening.

The crash is under investigation, and no additional information has been released.

Thoughts on the Fairfield County Crash that injured Nelson Jorge

Nelson Jorge Person Injury CrashI am relieved to learn Mr. Jorge survived this serious rollover accident. Many in his position are not as fortunate. I extend my gratitude for his safety and strength as he begins recovery.

Thankfully, Mr. Jorge survived to provide greater insight into the events leading up to this accident. From my experience, accidents occurring in the early morning hours are often caused by fatigue. However, as a products defect lawyer, my firm spends time focusing on what could have been done upstream to prevent injury from occurring. Manufacturers can theoretically produce vehicles so strong that a rollover would have little effect on the vehicle’s integrity. However, this is not feasible considering the cost of creating such a vehicle. Thus, manufacturers must balance safety with costs as they seek to protect the vehicle’s occupants. When an auto manufacture places cost over safety, attorneys get involved. This happens far more often than folks realize.

My firm will wait for further details before drawing any conclusions on the crashworthiness of Ford’s 2005 F-150s. Until then, I hope Mr. Jorge and his family may find strength as they move forward from this horrific accident.
