CALLAWAY COUNTY, Mo. — Justin Tognozzi, an 18-year-old from Ballwin, Mo., tragically died Feb. 25 in a crash on Interstate 70 in Mid-Missouri.
Local authorities said Tognozzi was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima westbound on I-70 just before 1 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle on an icy stretch of the roadway and struck a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia that had reportedly stopped on the road because of a prior crash that blocked traffic.
Emergency personnel pronounced Tognozzi dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the semi-truck, 29-year-old Michael Hadley, of St. Petersburg, Fla., was reportedly uninjured.
Both drivers were wearing safety belts when the crash occurred, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.
An investigation into the crash is underway. Authorities have not released any additional information.
