Semi-Truck Crash on I-30 near Lake Ray Hubbard Leaves One Dead

GARLAND, Texas—One person was killed in a collision between two semi-trucks in the early morning hours of November 1, 2022.

According to initial reports, a semi-truck traveling westbound crashed into another big rig parked on the shoulder of I-30 around 4:50 a.m. Upon impact, the moving semi-truck became engulfed in flames.

Two passengers in the burning semi-truck were rescued and taken to local hospitals for emergency treatment. One of the two victims passed away from the injuries, and the other is likely to recover. It is unknown if anyone was in the parked semi-truck at the time of the accident.

The crash is currently under investigation. No further details are currently available.

The Families Affected Here Deserve Answers and Justice

While many will assume the truck driver is responsible for crashing into a parked vehicle, this may not be entirely true. Truckers cannot park on a busy roadway and blame someone else after a crash. Those here, and others that may find this article in the future, must recognize that people cannot create a danger for others and then point to the other person’s mistakes to avoid liability. Of course, the driver should not have run into the back of the parked truck. However, the parked truck should never have parked beside a freeway in the first place. The trucking industry is aware of the risks this creates and must take steps to prevent this danger from occurring. Laws have been passed to prevent this very accident. When it is necessary to park on the shoulder for mechanical reasons or otherwise, specific steps must be taken to warn other drivers of the truck’s presence. There is no indication that any legally mandated steps were followed.

The families affected by this accident have a right to know what happened. Trained attorneys can investigate the accident and determine who is responsible. We are handling many of these cases right now across the state and are aware of the dangers this issue presents. The companies that allow their drivers to park on the side of busy roadways must be held accountable to ensure such behavior stops.

We extend our condolences to the families affected here and pray that the injured recovers fully.
