Three people were critically injured in a fiery crash involving a fuel tanker on I-95 near Delray Beach.

DELRAY BEACH, Florida—Four drivers were injured, and three were hospitalized in critical condition after a multi-vehicle crash resulted in a semi-truck bursting into flames on I-95 between Atlantic and Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach. The accident happened just after 1:00 p.m. on October 25, 2022.

Reportedly, two vehicles traveling in the northbound lanes of I-95 collided after one of the cars veered out of its lane. A third vehicle swerved to avoid the crash but struck the concrete median barrier instead. A light pole within the median barrier then fell into the southbound lanes, hitting two additional vehicles, one of which was a fuel tanker. The fuel tanker ruptured, and three cars in the northbound lanes caught fire. Leaked fuel also went through a storm drain and caused a secondary fire on the opposite side of the freeway.

In total, four people were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Of the four, three individuals suffered critical injuries, including burns. I-95 was shut down for approximately four hours after the crash.

Crash victims need to identify all responsible parties in seeking compensation for their injuries.

It is truly amazing how quickly one collision can cause a chain reaction impacting many other drivers on the roadway. Multiple-vehicle crashes become increasingly dangerous when semi-trucks and commercial vehicles carrying flammable materials are involved. To get the answers they deserve, crash victims should first identify all the parties involved and those who may be potentially responsible for their injuries.

Indeed, it is best practice to seek legal counsel and initiate an independent investigation into the cause(s) of the crash. With so many affected vehicles and drivers, there may be multiple responsible parties that can be held accountable for the damage caused by accidents. For instance, most commercial trucking companies carry insurance that covers all or part of the costs associated with accidents caused by their employees. Moreover, semi-truck manufacturers have also been known to compensate victims when their trucks' design has increased the risk of injuries to drivers. Here, the design of the tanker's trailer or fuel lines may have been defective, causing the semi-truck to burst into flames before emergency personnel could arrive on the scene.

Additionally, the design of the road must be thoroughly evaluated. If a particular roadway is well-known for crashes, a city or its engineers may be partially responsible for subsequent injuries on the dangerous stretch of the road.

Whatever the case may be, it is clear that many were wrongfully injured in this accident, and others like it, and deserve recourse for their injuries and harm. Trained legal professionals can often determine the best path forward and identify those responsible for preventable accidents.
