CHUBBUCK, Idaho – A fiery crash involving a potato truck and a car at the intersection of Reservation and Rio Vista roads on the border of the Fort Hall Reservation early Wednesday evening claimed four lives, with a fifth person taken to an area hospital, the Bannock County Coroner's Office reported.
This tragic accident happened near the intersection of Rio Vista and Reservation roads just outside Fort Hall around 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21st. Idaho State Police, Bannock County Sheriff’s deputies and Fort Hall Police responded to the call. The impact caused the car to ignite, and all four of the occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Their names have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin by the Bannock County Coroner’s Office.
According to the report, the potato truck driver was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in Pocatello with undetermined injuries. His name and condition remain unknown as the accident remains under investigation.
Further information will be needed before making any conclusion as to liability
As there is a lack of information surrounding this horrific accident, all we know at this point is that four people had their lives cut short yesterday and their families are left to mourn their tragic loss. Without the facts to tell us what happened, there is no way to determine what, and ultimately who is at fault for this tragedy. With an accident of this magnitude, it is in the best interest of all involved that an independent investigation be conducted by attorneys before jumping to any conclusions.
As with any accident, there are several possibilities here: 1) one of the two drivers was negligent, or 2) there may have been a mechanical failure in either vehicle. The answers will only be revealed after a further investigation is completed.
The goal of a personal injury claim is to seek financial compensation for an injured person so that they may rebuild their life. With a wrongful death claim like the family or families of the four who died yesterday may pursue, the plaintiff is not physically injured. Wrongful death lawsuits seek damages–compensation for the survivors' loss, such as lost wages from the deceased, lost companionship, and funeral expenses. A wrongful death lawsuit allows surviving family members to seek justice on behalf of a loved one who passed away due to another’s negligence. It is not fair for victims of car accidents or those they leave behind – to suffer the harm and be responsible for paying money out of their own pockets to compensate for their damages. That is why it is important to identify all parties who are potentially liable for the accident and hold them responsible for their actions.
