BURNS, Wyoming- Mark Nolte, 58, and Dion Hopkins Jr., 29, succumbed to fatal injuries following a crash between two tractor-trailers on I-80 near Burns.
According to authorities, the crash occurred around 4:50 a.m. when a Freightliner truck struck a Volvo 18-wheeler that was parked along the side of the highway. The cab of the Volvo was allegedly at least partially in the travel lane. The impact caused both trucks to catch fire.
It is unknown which vehicle Nolte and Hopkins Jr. were in, but both sustained fatal injuries in the collision.

The fatal truck crash must be investigated to ensure the grieving families have access to our courts and receive the justice they are entitled to
From what we know, this crash never should have happened. The driver of the Volvo truck failed to pull off the roadway, and as a result, a collision occurred. This accident scenario clearly indicates driver error, and the families of the deceased victims will likely have the right to bring a claim against the negligent trucker and the trucking company for such actions.
However, a further investigation into the driver's actions must be conducted to ensure all responsible parties are held accountable and the families are awarded all compensation they are entitled to. Primarily, we must determine why the driver was parked on the roadside in the first place. Drivers are not permitted to use roadsides as parking lots. However, there are times when a driver must pull over for mechanical failures or other causes. In these situations, it is important to investigate what the mechanical error may have been and whether it could have been prevented. If this truck suffered a mechanical error that was caused by a negligent repair job or mechanical defect of some kind, then the truck never would have been on the road but for some other party’s actions. In that situation, the occupants of both vehicles would have a right to bring a claim for recovery against the negligent party that caused the truck to break down.
At The Ammons Law Firm, we have recovered over $1 billion for clients injured and killed by other people’s actions. We write these blogs to help surviving families recover the compensation they are entitled to. The families affected by this crash will go the rest of their lives mourning the loss of their loved one; they should not suffer financially in the process. The responsible parties must pay for their mistakes, and unfortunately, the only adequate substitute in our justice system is monetary damages.
