One dead, sixteen injured in a triple-vehicle crash with a box truck on Florida State Route 60

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Florida—One person died, and sixteen others were injured in a crash involving a box truck, tour bus, and a pickup truck at the intersection of State Route 60 and Peavine, eight miles west of Yeehaw Junction. The accident happened around 5:00 a.m. on September 21, 2022.

Osceola County Fire Rescue & EMS responded to this fatal crash and provided updates on the crash throughout the day on September 21st. According to news reports, a passenger in the Dodge Ram pickup involved in the accident was pronounced dead at the scene, while fourteen tour bus passengers were transported to local hospitals by ambulance. The drivers of the Dodge Ram pickup and a box truck were both flown to nearby hospitals by Air Care helicopters.

The accident resulted in the closure of State Route 60 west of Florida’s Turnpike for many hours.

Investigation into the accident is still ongoing. No further information has been made available.

Further investigation into the cause of the three-vehicle accident will help determine liability for injuries and death

Even though we do not know exactly what happened in this crash, the incredible response required of emergency personnel in facilitating the treatment of sixteen victims only highlights the importance of preventing these multi-vehicle crashes in the future. Not only did this accident require an immense amount of resources from first responders, but it surely traumatized many of the victims and their families, notwithstanding the family of the one decedent. For these reasons, the wreck should be thoroughly investigated so that everyone involved can get the answers they need to understand what caused such a terrible event.

There are many possible causes that could have contributed to this accident. For one, the driver of the Dodge Ram pickup may have been distracted while driving. Equally as plausible, however, is the idea that either the driver of the tour bus or box truck was not paying attention at the time of the accident.
