Johnnye Mary Walton was killed in a pedestrian-vehicle accident in Bryan, Texas

BRYAN, Texas – Johnnye Mary Walton was killed after being struck by a car involved in a wreck only moments before.

According to authorities, two vehicles crashed at the intersection of Barak Lane and East 29th street in Bryan, Texas. After the collision between the two vehicles, one of the vehicles continued onto the sidewalk and hit Ms. Walton on his bike.

Ms. Walton was transported by medical personnel to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. According to authorities, no other injuries were reported in the crash.

No further information was immediately available.

The Walton family will need this accident investigated to ensure they receive answers under the law

This is a terrible accident that shows how a split-second decision can lead to severe, unattended consequences. It is highly unlikely that either motorist envisioned a lapse in judgment would lead to a secondary collision with an entirely innocent pedestrian. Unfortunately, we do not have control over the consequences of our actions, and an innocent man is now dead, leaving behind a surviving family who must mourn his unexpected passing.

The actions of the motorists involved in the crash will need to be investigated to determine what caused this collision. One of the core principles of negligence law is that we are accountable for the harm caused by our actions, regardless of whether we intended the harm or not. And since motor vehicles do not crash into each other absent a mistake on someone’s part, the law must determine what happened to ensure the surviving family receives the answers and justice they are entitled to.

This is a horrific loss for all involved. No one wants to be the culprit of another’s loss of life, and no family wants to be left grieving a loved one. While the law can do little to rectify this wrong, it can help make similar accidents are prevented by holding wrongdoers accountable. While this will do nothing to bring back Ms. Walton or ease the grieving of the surviving family, it will help other innocent citizens from suffering the same harm that was suffered here.

I offer my condolences to the surviving family and pray that they might find strength during this overwhelming time of grief and sorrow.
