OCALA, Florida – Authorities reported a fatal semi-truck accident at the intersection of N U.S. 441 and NW 20th Street in Ocala.
According to reports, a loaded semi-truck was traveling northbound in the outside lane when it ran a red light and crashed into a woman traveling westbound on NW 20th Street. The truck reportedly attempted to avoid the crash but struck the driver’s side door of the car, pushing the vehicle sideways into the median.
The unidentified woman driving the passenger vehicle was the sole occupant. The crash resulted in severe injuries, and the woman was trauma alerted to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.
The names of the drivers involved in the accident were not released by authorities. No further information was immediately available.
The truck driver must be held accountable, and the surviving family must be provided all justice they are entitled to under the law
This is an absolutely senseless loss of life that, based on the alleged facts, was entirely preventable had the driver of the semi-truck exercised even the smallest degree of caution while operating on a public roadway. Such accidents cannot be tolerated, and all responsible parties must be held accountable. The actions of the driver are clearly at issue, and the actions of the trucking company are also relevant to determine how such a driver could be allowed to operate a company vehicle.
If an investigation conducted by trained truck accident attorneys reveals that the trucking company allowed a blatantly dangerous driver onto the road, the company cannot escape liability simply because the driver was the primary culprit. Companies have a duty to enact safety regulations and promote driver safety to ensure these very types of accidents are prevented. Companies that disregard safety must be held accountable to ensure safer policies are procedures are enacted, and all motorists are safer.
