Hans Robinson was killed in a multi-vehicle truck crash on Interstate 77

KANAWHA COUNTY, West Virginia – A multi-vehicle truck accident on Interstate 77 has left one man dead.

According to authorities, Hans Robinson, 43, of Charleston, was traveling northbound on Interstate 77 when a southbound tractor-trailer crashed through the median and collided head-on with Mr. Robinson’s pickup truck. The tractor-trailer then crashed into a small car.

Multiple people in the truck and car were injured in the crash. Authorities confirmed that Hans Robinson was killed in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear as authorities continue their investigation.

No further information was immediately available.

When truck drivers fail to exercise extreme caution, people are injured and killed.

I am deeply saddened to learn of this innocent loss of life and multiple injuries. Based on the preliminary investigation, it is clear that Mr. Robinson was wholly innocent. The parties responsible for the crash will need to be held accountable for their actions.

An investigation into the cause of the crash must be undertaken to ensure all wrongdoing is identified. From experience, the vast majority of head-on collisions are caused by distracted driving, and authorities will surely investigate the actions of the truck driver in the moments preceding the crash. If evidence of phone use or other forms of distraction is revealed, firm justice must be handed down. Truckers cannot use their phones or other devices while driving. The consequences are too great.

Mechanical issues should also be considered. Approximately 10% of truck accidents are caused by a mechanical issue of some kind. Determining whether a mechanical issue of some type contributed to this crash will require a more intensive investigation. However, it is important that all wrongdoers are held accountable to ensure accidents like this are prevented in the future, and innocent lives are spared. If the truck lost control because a repair company did not do its job correctly, holding the repair company responsible will reduce the likelihood of a similar error in the future. Likewise, if the accident was caused by a mechanical defect, the manufacturer responsible must bear the cost of the crash and implement better standards to prevent future crashes from occurring.

I offer my condolences to the surviving family and pray for their peace during this difficult time.
