Maria Ballesteros and David Enriquez were killed in a truck accident on U.S. 84

Hockley, County, Texas – The Texas Department of Public Safety reported two people were killed in a truck accident Saturday morning. The crash happened on U.S. Highway 84 northwest of Farm to Market Road 168, half a mile east of Anton, Texas.

According to reports, Maria Ballesteros (23) and David Enriquez (26) were involved in a crash, leaving the Ford F-150 they occupied disabled in the inside lane of US 84. While disabled, a semi-truck driving along US 84 crashes into their stalled vehicle.

Authorities reported the condition of the two occupants of the truck. Ms. Ballesteros suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where she passed away. Mr. Enriquez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The driver of the semi-truck suffered minor injuries.

No further information was immediately available.

This crash needs to be investigated to determine who is at fault

This is a complicated accident, and I am deeply saddened by the loss of two lives in what seems to be a preventable crash. The pain caused by this crash will be felt throughout the Littlefield community.

More information will be needed before attorneys can help the surviving families determine the best path forward. It is clear that all motorists must remain alert and attentive and exercise caution to avoid hitting other motorists. An investigation into the actions of the trucker will shed light on whether these rules were followed. If a detailed investigation reveals this accident could have been prevented had greater caution been exercised, the families will be entitled to bring a wrongful death claim and hold the trucking company financially responsible for the pain and suffering they must endure as a result of their loved one’s passing.

These are difficult cases. The families have lost a loved one and the trucking company and driver likely meant no harm. While the law cannot ease the pain of loss, it can reduce the financial burden on the surviving families and help protect others from suffering the same loss.

I extend my deepest condolences to all involved and pray that the surviving families are given the peace and support they need to endure this difficult time of grief.
