Driver Sustains Life-Threatening Injuries After Semi-Truck Crashes into Wofford Heights Home in Bakersfield, California

Bakersfield, Calif. — A truck driver sustained serious injuries after his semi-truck crashed into a house. The incident happened Thursday afternoon in Wofford Heights.

According to reports, the semi-truck was descending Evans Grade when its brakes failed. The truck crashed through a power pole and into a propane tank, causing a structure fire at the residence. The home residents were not present at the time of the crash.

The driver managed to crawl out of the wreckage yet suffered burns and life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital by Liberty Ambulance for medical care.

The crash also ignited a grass fire. Fire crews went door-to-door in the neighborhood, evacuating and informing residents about the fire risk.

No further details have been provided.

The cause of the brake failure must be determined

Brakes don’t just fail by chance. Mechanical issues can often arise from a manufacturing or design flaw or inadequate or improper truck maintenance. When a truck driver sustains serious injuries because of such defects or poor maintenance, those responsible must be held accountable.

Unfortunately, manufacturers and trucking companies sometimes cut corners to maximize their profits. Defects often result from rushed or inadequately trained workers who improperly install or design brake systems. Some employers neglect routine inspections and maintenance, which are essential for safety and required by law.

Truck drivers deserve to do their jobs safely. They should not have to endure pain, lose income, or deal with increasing medical expenses because of someone else’s negligence. If an investigation reveals that wrongdoing or negligence contributed to the trucker’s serious injuries, those responsible must be held accountable.

Our truck drivers are the backbone of America. These dedicated drivers deserve to be safe on the roadways, their home away from home.
