One Person Dead and Two Injured in a Chain-Reaction Accident Involving a Semi-truck on Interstate 20 in Kershaw County, South Carolina

Kershaw County, S.C. – A deadly chain-reaction crash claimed one life and left two others injured. The incident happened Sunday afternoon on Interstate 20 in Kershaw County.

The collision involved a 2024 Freightliner tractor-trailer, a 2011 Buick sedan, and a 2006 Ford pickup truck.

According to reports, the crash occurred when traffic slowed, and the first two vehicles—the Buick sedan and Ford pickup—came to a stop. The tractor-trailer, unable to halt in time, collided with the pickup truck’s rear, causing it to crash into the sedan. The sedan and the pickup were forced off the right side of the road, overturning the pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a passenger in the sedan were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries.

No additional details have been released.

Thoughts on semi-truck chain-reaction accidents

What a tragic accident that could have been prevented. What went wrong here? The family of the deceased and those injured have a right to seek answers and pursue justice.

Basic traffic regulations, such as maintaining a safe following distance, are designed to protect everyone on the road. When these rules are violated, innocent lives are put at risk. This is why the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) advises truck drivers to maintain a minimum distance of at least four seconds from the vehicle in front. This guideline is intended to prevent accidents like this one and cannot be disregarded. Truck drivers should be held accountable when they fail to follow these safety protocols.

Someone died, and others suffered injuries. This cannot be taken lightly. Losing a loved one brings immense emotional and physical suffering, along with financial hardships. When such a loss occurs due to another’s negligence, the affected individuals have the right to seek accountability from those at fault.

The same principle applies to those who have sustained serious injuries. No one should have to endure pain, financial loss, or escalating medical bills because safety standards were ignored.
