Six People Injured in a Multiple Vehicle Accident Involving a Semi-truck on Interstate 57 In Jefferson County, Illinois


Jefferson County, Ill. – Six people sustained injuries in a traffic incident involving multiple vehicles, including a semi-truck. The incident happened Sunday afternoon on Interstate 57 in Jefferson County.

According to reports, the incident began when a pickup truck towing a boat trailer came to a stop behind a semi-tractor trailer. A second semi-tractor trailer, unable to halt in time, collided with the boat trailer and pickup truck from behind. The impact caused the pickup truck to be pushed into the semi-tractor trailer ahead of it, leading to both the second semi and the pickup truck catching fire.

The incident involved a pickup truck, two semi-tractor trailers, and an SUV. The JFPD reported that the box trailer, pickup truck, boat, and semi-flatbed were all engulfed in flames.

One individual was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, while the conditions of the other victims remain unknown at this time.

More needs to be done to prevent accidents like this from happening

The news release states the second semi-truck failed to stop in time to avoid colliding with the pickup truck in front of them. Why? Was the truck driver distracted? Speeding? To avoid rear-end collisions, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recommends that trucks keep a minimum of at least 4 seconds between them and the vehicle in front. This rule is specifically designed to prevent this crash from happening and cannot be ignored by truckers.

Truck drivers must adjust their driving according to traffic conditions. Failure to do so endangers others on the road, as seen in this catastrophic crash. When someone is injured through no fault of their own, they deserve answers, justice, and compensation.
