Aydin Garcia Killed in a Parked Semi-truck Accident in Coles County, Illinois

Coles County, Ill. — A two-vehicle accident in Coles County has left one person dead, officials report.

Preliminary findings indicate 24-year-old Aydin Garcia collided head-on with the rear of a parked semi-truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force trauma.

Semi-trucks cannot park on the side of the road and put everyone else in danger

It’s easy for trucking companies and drivers to blame the person killed for running into the back of a parked semi-truck. This is not fair.  When a crash involves a truck parked on the shoulder of a highway, a more thorough investigation is needed. Parking a large semi-truck close to moving traffic is dangerous and should be avoided whenever possible. The trucking industry knows this. In another case, a man lost his life after his car struck a semi-truck parked on the left shoulder of a busy highway. The truck driver admitted to stopping to use the restroom and parked dangerously close to the traffic lane. This thoughtless choice cost an innocent life.

Those responsible must be held accountable when negligence or misconduct actions are involved. No one should have to lose a loved one because of someone else’s poor decisions.
