Construction Worker Killed After a Work Site Accident at the VAI Resort Site in Glendale, Arizona

Glendale, Ariz. — A construction worker died after falling approximately six stories at the VAI Resort construction site Monday morning, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred near Loop 101 and Cardinals Way, close to State Farm Stadium. Glendale police reported that the Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified and is looking into the incident.

Further details have not yet been released.

Workplace deaths must be investigated for accountability

For families, learning the full details of why their loved one died while performing a routine job can be an overwhelming challenge. Employers may hold back vital information, and witnesses may hesitate to speak out for fear of retaliation. These obstacles often reflect a deeper issue: workplace accidents can expose underlying problems that aren’t immediately obvious.

In 2022, falls from heights accounted for 81% of all fatal slips, trips, and falls and 20% of nonfatal incidents across all industries (BLS 2023a, BLS 2023b). The construction industry, in particular, bears a significant share of this burden, with construction workers representing nearly 49% of all fatal falls in the workplace (BLS 2023). These alarming statistics highlight the critical importance of addressing fall-related safety concerns.

In light of this incident, key questions must be asked: What safety protocols were in place at the construction site? Was proper fall protection equipment used? Were potential hazards identified and mitigated? Was there an effective rescue plan in case of an emergency? A lack of thorough planning and proper implementation of safety measures is often a root cause of falls. These procedures are not just guidelines but life-saving measures where every second counts.

Asking these fundamental questions can help the family uncover the truth about what went wrong and provide clarity regarding their loved one’s tragic loss.

It is essential for families who lose a loved one in a workplace accident to know they may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, emotional distress, and other damages—even when fault is shared. These families deserve advocates who will fight for justice, hold those responsible accountable, and offer support throughout the legal journey.

I hope the grieving family in this tragic incident receives the answers, justice, and support they need during this incredibly difficult time.
