Nationwide Cucumber Recall: Salmonella Outbreak Triggers 11 FDA Announcements

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued 11 recalls of cucumbers contaminated with salmonella, affecting multiple products and states. The contamination has been linked to an outbreak of salmonellosis, a serious bacterial illness that impacted 68 people across 19 states in October and November, leading to 18 hospitalizations.

Salmonella infections can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, and vomiting, typically appearing within 12 to 72 hours of consuming contaminated food. While most recover within a week, young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at risk for severe or life-threatening complications.

Companies recalling products include:

Ā Russ Davis Wholesale: Recalled various salads and wraps under brands Crazy Fresh, Quick & Easy, and Kowalski’s Markets.

Walmart: Pulled sliced cucumbers sold at 34 Texas locations, sourced from SunFed.

Kroger: Partnered with JFE Franchising, Supreme Service Solutions, and Yummi Sushi to recall salads, vegetable trays, cucumber snack cups, and sushi products sold in Texas and Colorado stores.

Hardie’s Fresh Foods: Recalled cucumbers supplied to Costco in Texas.

F&S Fresh Foods and Fresh Creative Foods: Recalled party trays and gyro meal kits distributed to Ralph’s, Smith’s, and Sam’s Club stores across the U.S.

Reser’s Fine Foods, Inc.: Recalled Sprouts Farmers Market family gyro kits containing contaminated tzatziki sauce.

Consumers are urged to discard or return affected products for a full refund and thoroughly sanitize any surfaces they may have touched. The FDA website has a complete list of recalled items and impacted states.
