Dangerous Hyundai Wiring Defect May Lead to Injuries | Vehicle Accident Attorney


Hyundai Motor North America has issued a recall for more than 42,000 vehicles due to a wiring defect that may cause them to shift out of “park” without requiring the brake pedal to be pressed. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified this issue in a notice. It increases the risk of rollaway incidents, which can lead to crashes or injuries.

The recall impacts all 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz and Tucson models sold in the U.S., including over 35,500 Tucson and 6,900 Santa Cruz vehicles. The NHTSA estimates about 1% of these vehicles may have the defect.

Vehicle owners are urged to use the parking brake as a precaution when parking. Hyundai dealerships will address the issue by rerouting the console extension wiring assembly, and repairs will be provided at no cost to owners.

Notification letters are expected to be sent to affected vehicle owners starting January 19, 2025. For further information or assistance, owners are encouraged to contact Hyundai or visit the NHTSA website.
