Kia Recalls Nearly 23,000 EV9 SUVs Over Potential Seat Bolt Issue

Los Angeles – Kia America has announced a recall of nearly 23,000 EV9 electric SUVs in the U.S. due to the potential absence of seat mounting bolts in specific models. Although the automaker estimates that only about 1% of the affected vehicles may have the defect, the recall impacts specific 2024 and 2025 EV9 models built between September 25, 2023, and October 12, 2024, at Kia’s Autoland Gwangmyeong assembly plant in South Korea.

The issue, attributed to a worker error during assembly, involves possible missing bolts for second- and third-row seats. Kia confirmed that a safety inspection of nearly 1,000 EV9 units in November found no loose or missing bolts, but the recall is being conducted out of caution.

Owners of the recalled vehicles will receive notification letters by mail starting January 24, 2025. Kia advises affected customers to bring their SUVs to a dealership for a free inspection. If bolts are missing, dealers will install and secure them to ensure proper safety.

For more details, owners can contact Kia Customer Service at 1-800-333-4542 and reference recall number SC239. This action marks the latest safety effort for Kia’s first three-row electric SUV, which has quickly gained popularity, with over 20,000 units sold in the U.S. in 2024 alone.
