Man Killed in a Multi-Vehicle Truck Crash on Interstate 94 in Clearwater Township, Minnesota

Clearwater Township, MN – A three-vehicle crash involving two semi-trucks claimed the life of a Monticello man. The incident happened Thursday night on Interstate 94 near Clearwater Township in Wright County.

According to reports, the incident occurred when a semi-truck jackknifed into the center median cables while traveling east on the interstate. A 2023 Honda Ridgeline collided with the jackknifed truck’s trailer. A second semi struck the first semi, causing the Honda to roll.

The driver of the Honda died at the scene.

Authorities noted that the road conditions were snowy and icy at the time of the crash, contributing to the accident.

Commercial Trucks Have a Responsibility to Operate Only Under Safe Conditions

The news release states that road conditions were snowy and icy during the crash. This raises concerns. Should the semi-trucks have been on the road in the first place?

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), commercial trucks should stop operating if conditions are too dangerous. Specifically, the FMCSA advises drivers to immediately discontinue operations if conditions prevent safe driving due to adverse weather conditions. Drivers are also instructed to reduce speed and prepare for longer stopping distances and slower turns. Did the truck drivers follow these safety guidelines? The actions of both drivers must be closely examined, as this crash resulted in someone losing their life.
