Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash Involving Semi-Truck Kills One Person in Lake County, Florida

Lake County, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a semi-truck that claimed the life of a woman in Eustis.

The incident occurred on State Road 44 near Forest Ridge Road on Wednesday afternoon. Reports state that a semi-truck with a blue cab and silver trailer was traveling eastbound when the driver attempted to slow down for traffic. The trailer veered into the westbound lane, striking a Nissan.

The impact redirected the Nissan into the eastbound lane, where it collided with a Ford traveling behind the semi-truck. The semi-truck driver did not stop and continued eastbound.

The driver of the Nissan, a woman whose identity has not yet been released, was airlifted to a hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities are continuing to search for the semi-truck and its driver.

Further investigation will provide much-needed information

Deadly hit-and-run collisions with commercial trucks leave surviving families devastated and searching for answers. When a loved one is lost in such a tragic way, those left behind deserve to know exactly what happened. Authorities will begin the investigation, but skilled professionals may be needed to uncover the whole story of how something like this could even transpire.

For instance, the trucking company must also be scrutinized. Did they conduct a thorough background check on the driver they hired? Did the driver have a history of repeated violations? Was safety a top priority for the company? These are critical questions that must be addressed to ensure all responsible parties are held accountable.

My hope is for this driver to be found soon and for the surviving family to receive the justice they deserve.
