Rogelio Benavidez-Urrea Killed in Semi-Truck Accident in San Juan, Texas

San Juan, Texas — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal crash involving a semi-trailer and a passenger vehicle. The victim has been identified as 76-year-old Rogelio Benavidez-Urrea.

The collision occurred Friday afternoon at the intersection of Stewart Road and U.S. 18 Military Road, south of San Juan.

According to officials, the driver of a semi-trailer traveling northbound on Stewart Road failed to stop at a flashing red light with a stop sign, striking a Honda vehicle. The driver of the Honda, Benavidez-Urrea, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No additional details have been released.

Commercial trucks cannot ignore traffic rules without accountability

No one should lose their life because a driver ignores basic traffic laws. It’s deeply unfair when responsible drivers who follow the rules are tragically killed due to the reckless actions of others—especially when that driver is operating a much larger and heavier vehicle capable of causing significant harm.

A grieving family is now left without their loved one, grappling with the heartbreaking question of why this happened and how to seek justice for their loss. The journey to find answers and accountability is never easy, especially while managing the emotional weight of their loss alongside the financial burdens of funeral expenses and other unexpected costs.

This family deserves every available resource to help them uncover the truth and pursue justice. In many states, families of truck accident victims are entitled to seek compensation for their losses. While this cannot undo the tragedy, it serves as a legal recognition of their profound suffering and the impact of their loss. It also holds the company responsible and makes sure better training is put in place to prevent similar deaths in the future.

We hope Mr. Benavidez-Urrea’s family receives the support, guidance, and strength they need to navigate this challenging time and begin to move forward.
