Fatal Semi-truck Crash on Interstate 5 in Fresno, California

Fresno, Calif. — A 24-year-old man lost his life in a multi-vehicle collision early Monday morning on Interstate 5, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported.

The crash occurred when a 2025 Volvo tractor-trailer traveling northbound at approximately 60 miles per hour failed to stop and struck the rear of a 2011 Subaru Outback. The Subaru had been stationary behind a stopped 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer. The impact pushed the Subaru into the rear of the Freightliner.

Authorities confirmed that the 24-year-old passenger in the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Subaru’s driver and four additional passengers sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported for medical treatment.
