Fatal Truck Accident on Interstate 44 in Sullivan, Missouri

Sullivan, Mo. — Authorities report that a semi-truck driver has been found following a deadly hit-and-run incident along Interstate 44. The incident happened on Monday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash claimed the life of a 60-year-old man who was standing near the highway shoulder.

Authorities report that the man was assisting with a tire change on the shoulder of the highway when a semi-truck veered onto the shoulder, striking him. The truck also sideswiped a Ford F-250 and a Chevrolet HHR parked nearby before leaving the scene.

The driver of the semi-truck reportedly fled the scene but was later located and taken into custody.

Truck Drivers Who Break the Law Must Be Held Responsible

When a driver’s mistake leads to a devastating crash, families are left grieving the sudden loss of a loved one while grappling with difficult questions about what happened. Amid their pain, they must quickly determine how to seek answers and protect their future. Skilled legal advocates can guide families through this process, helping them uncover the truth and pursue compensation for their loss.

Unfortunately, in many cases where a truck driver is at fault, they or their company may try to shift the blame or push for a quick settlement that doesn’t fully cover the magnitude of the loss just experienced.

Trucking accident cases are complex and require an attorney with experience who won’t accept quick settlements or allow blame-shifting tactics. Surviving families deserve an advocate who will stand with them every step of the way, fighting for the full compensation and justice they need to rebuild their lives without their loved ones.

Trucking companies have a responsibility to place safe drivers on our roadways. Each year, hundreds of pedestrians and bystanders lose their lives in accidents with large trucks (according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Trucking companies and drivers must work toward reducing these numbers. This can only happen when they are held accountable for driving unsafely and causing a fatal accident.

I hope the surviving family here finds the guidance and support they need to move forward.
