Volkswagen Issues Recall for Over 100,000 Vehicles Due to Airbag Hazard


Volkswagen has recalled more than 100,000 vehicles following reports of a potentially dangerous defect in the driver’s side airbag, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall affects several models, including certain 2017-2019 VW Beetles and Beetle Convertibles, 2012-2014 Passats, 2017 Passat Wagons, and 2006-2007 Passat Sedans. The issue involves a malfunctioning airbag inflator that could explode after prolonged exposure to heat and humidity. In such cases, metal fragments could be propelled into the cabin, posing a serious risk of injury or death to drivers and passengers.

Volkswagen has pledged to replace the defective driver’s side airbag modules at no cost to vehicle owners. Notification letters are expected to be sent out by late December.

Drivers are urged to check if their vehicle is affected by visiting the NHTSA’s website or contacting Volkswagen directly to schedule a repair as soon as possible.
