One Person Killed by Machining Equipment at Precision Automotive Plastics in Bellevue, Ohio

Bellevue, OH – one person died after being pinned under industrial machining equipment. The incident happened at the Precision Automotive Plastics facility Thursday morning.

According to reports, first responders were dispatched to the facility following a crane accident. Upon arrival,  they discovered an employee trapped beneath the molding equipment and pronounced them dead at the scene.

Due to safety concerns and tactical challenges, it took about eight hours to extricate the worker from the machinery.

The identity of the deceased employee has not been released.

Thoughts on workplace accidents

While we do not have all the details to draw conclusions about what happened here, we know employers can prevent most workplace accidents with the proper safety measures in place.

OSHA mandates that employers take several precautions to prevent workers from being pinned. Heavy equipment like cranes should be counterweighted to avoid pinning accidents, especially those involving tipping. Operators should be secured with seatbelts, roll bars, or other protective devices to ensure they remain safe in the event of an accident. Were these safety protocols followed here?

Accidents like this, which are preventable, should never occur. When they do, those at fault must be held accountable.

May the deceased’s surviving family find the answers they need.
