Several People Injured in an RV Rollover Accident Caused by a Tire Blowout on Bluegrass Parkway

Anderson County, Ky. – Several individuals sustained injuries when the RV they were traveling in experienced a tire blowout. The incident happened Saturday on the Bluegrass Parkway.

According to officials, an RV pulling a vehicle experienced a tire blowout while traveling in the eastbound lane, causing it to cross the median and roll down an embankment into the westbound lane.

While several passengers were hurt, no critical injuries were reported.

No additional details have been released.

RV tires are special and must be designed to account for long periods of sitting followed by long days of travel

While keeping your tires in good condition is important, sometimes a perfectly good tire fails because the tire is defective. This is especially concerning with RVs, which have a unique road use compared to other vehicles. RVs are designed to sit for long periods before being taken out on the road for long drives over many days. This is different than passenger vehicles, which typically are used daily or weekly on shorter drivers, and 18-wheelers or other trucks, which routinely drive many miles over many days.

Defective RV tires are more common than many people realize. For instance, in 2022, Goodyear recalled nearly 170,000 RV tires due to defect risks that led to numerous accidents, injuries, and fatalities nationwide. We just recently resolved one for a family in Florida after a husband and father died after his RV’s tire failed despite it being in proper working condition.

It’s a relief that no critical injuries have been reported here, given the serious danger that this family was put in, and I hope all those involved recover fully. However, recovering from such an accident can be long, challenging, and costly. If the tire that caused this crash is found to be defective, those injured deserve fair and just compensation from the manufacturer to help cover their expenses and ease the difficulties of their recovery.
