Christopher Hagan Dies After Being Struck by a Semi-truck on Interstate 20 in Columbia, South Carolina

Columbia, S.C. — A man died, Saturday morning, after being struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 20.

According to reports, 38-year-old Christopher Hagan ran out of gas on the highway and was hit by a tractor-trailer when he exited his vehicle.

No further details have been released.

Thoughts on pedestrians and semi-trucks

In an instant, a moment of inattention or failure to respond to traffic conditions ahead of the road can result in devastating outcomes. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recognizes this risk, which is why operating a semi-truck demands a higher standard than driving other vehicles on public roads. Truck drivers must not be distracted, impaired, fatigued, or in violation of traffic laws.

While we do not know exactly what happened in this incident, most accidents are preventable and caused by human error. While this is known, it can be challenging to prove. Liable parties will avoid responsibility at all costs, shifting blame to others. This is why it is important for injured or surviving families to find trained lawyers to help them navigate this process.

Surviving families need answers and deserve answers when they lose their loved ones in such a sudden and tragic manner. May they find the help they need.
