Ward County, TX — A woman was killed after her car tire blew out on Interstate 20.

According to reports, Dominique Retana was traveling eastbound when her tire blew out, causing her vehicle to skid sideways across the eastbound lanes. The vehicle landed in a south ditch and rolled across the service road.

Retana was pronounced deceased at Ward County Hospital by medical staff.

Manufacturers are responsible for accidents caused by defective tires

Many people believe that tire blowouts are always an accident. This is not necessarily true. Sometimes, tire failures can occur because a tire is defective from the start. Unknowingly operating a vehicle with defective tires is dangerous and increases the likelihood of serious injury or death. These types of tire failures are not an accident, they are a choice made by manufacturers to produce and distribute tires that should not be on our roadway.

Manufacturers know the danger of producing defective tires. They know that the law requires them to design and manufacture products free of flaws that can be hazardous to the general public. However, to cut cost and time, or by error, manufacturers sometimes produce tires with poor design and construction that place motorists in harm’s way. Whenever someone is seriously hurt or dies due to a defective tire, the manufacturer should be held accountable.

Tire defect cases are often complicated and challenging. We have found that manufacturers will do everything In their power to blame the driver or some other third party for the accident. This is not fair. If the tire proves defective after a detailed inspection, the manufacturer should not be permitted to escape liability.
