Emmanuel Jones Dies in Tire Blowout Accident on Interstate 20 in Aiken County Wagener, South Carolina

Wagener, S.C. – One man is dead after the semi-truck they were operating had a tire blowout. The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 20.

According to reports, 28-year-old Emmanuel Jones was traveling west in a 2005 Kenworth truck when it experienced a tire blowout. The vehicle veered off the left side of the interstate and collided with several trees.

Emmanuel Jones was ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.

The tire needs to be inspected to determine if it is defective

I am seeing tires blow out on semi-trucks across the country. It goes without saying how dangerous this is for the truck driver and the motoring public. What is most concerning is that many of these tire failures are caused by factors entirely outside the control of the trucker or the trucking company. We are handling one such case in South Carolina for a family whose husband died while driving his semi-truck on I-85 outside of Anderson, South Carolina. Our client was driving across the country in his 18-wheeler when his front tire failed by no fault of his own, causing the truck to crash out of control. When we investigated the crash for the surviving wife, we found that the tire had clear signs of defects that led to the tire failing. Quite simply, the man was killed because the manufacturer sold a defective tire.

Unfortunately, defective tires are making their way onto our roadways at an alarming rate. These faulty tires are ticking time bombs waiting to explode, leaving innocent truckers entirely powerless to control their trucks and risking the lives of the motoring public. This is unacceptable, and more needs to be done to hold tire manufacturers responsible for these types of crashes.

While I cannot say if this tire was defective with the information currently available, I can say that this crash is similar to others we see involving defective steer axle tires. The tire will need to be inspected by trained professionals. If it is determined the tire is defective, the surviving family should be given every right under the law to hold the manufacturer responsible for the unspeakable harm they must endure because of their loved one’s passing.
