Matthew McCoy Killed in an Industrial Accident at DPR Manufacturing in Warren, Michigan

Warren, MI – A 24-year-old man lost his life in an industrial accident at the manufacturing facility he worked at. The incident happened Friday afternoon at DPR Manufacturing.

According to reports, Matthew McCoy was moving sheet metal using a cart when it caught on an uneven surface, causing it to tip over and fall on him.

No further details are available.

Thoughts on workplace accidents

Uneven floors pose serious risks, leading to slips, falls, and, as seen in this tragic incident, even death. Poorly maintained floors are particularly dangerous in high-foot-traffic areas where workers frequently pass through and use carts to help transfer materials. This leads us to ask, why was this uneven surface not repaired and properly maintained? Employers have a duty to promptly identify and address potential hazards in their flooring to ensure their workers’ safety.

Unfortunately, many employers cut corners on safety to save money. They may identify hazards in the workplace but ignore making repairs or replacing dangerous conditions, assuming nothing will happen. This is unacceptable and constitutes pure negligence.

An investigation is needed to examine the circumstances of this incident, including whether any wrongdoing occurred, if it could have been prevented, and if the company was negligent. Employers have a duty to ensure the safety and welfare of everyone in the workplace. When they fail in this duty, they should be held accountable.

If any wrongdoing or negligence contributed to this tragic accident, the deceased’s surviving family deserves justice and compensation.
