Steven Albers, Colleen Weaver, and Andrea Albers were Injured in a Tire Blowout Accident on U.S. 40 in Logan County, Kansas

Logan County, Kansas — Three people were hospitalized after the SUV they were traveling in had a tire blowout. The incident happened on U.S. 40 Tuesday shortly after 7 p.m.

According to reports, a 2004 Dodge Durango was traveling westbound when the SUV’s passenger rear tire blew out, causing it to veer onto the north shoulder and the driver to lose control. The vehicle crossed both lanes of traffic, rolled into a ditch, and stopped in a field.

Emergency personnel transported the SUV driver, Steven Albers, and passengers Colleen Weaver and Andrea Albers to the hospital.

Tire companies need to be held responsible for injuries caused by defective tires

When we think of tire blowouts, we often blame poor tire maintenance, bad luck, or driver error as the reason for the crash. This is not fair. More often than people realize, tires fail because they are bad tires. Creating tires is not a simple process. Tires are made by people, and people make mistakes. People make more mistakes when they are pressured by their companies to work harder and are not provided adequate training or conditions to reduce mistakes. This is why some manufacturers consistently produce defective tires that make it onto our roadways to injure and kill innocent people.

One of the key signs that a tire is defective is what is known as tread separation. Tread separation, as seen in the photo, occurs when the tire’s tread completely separates from the body of the tire. This results in an ice-like scenario that causes the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash into whatever is in the vehicle’s path. Needless to say, this is highly dangerous, and manufacturers who cause such an accident need to be held responsible.
