Abdullahi Abdi and Fadhi Ali Killed When Amazon Truck’s Tire Blewout on Interstate 10 near Tonopah in Maricopa County, Arizona

Maricopa County, Ariz. – An Amazon driver and co-driver died when the truck they were traveling in had an apparent tire blowout. The incident happened Thursday afternoon on Interstate 10 near Tonopah.

The driver of the semi-truck, 40-year-old Abdullahi Abdi, and co-driver, 35-year-old Fadhi Ali, sustained serious injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Amazon released a statement expressing their condolences.

The tire must be investigated to determine if it is defective

When a commercial truck’s tire suddenly bursts, people may assume it is no one’s fault or that it is due to bad luck or chance. People need to realize that many of the truck accidents that we continue to see across the country are not bad luck; they are the direct result of defective tires.

Unfortunately, we are seeing more and more truck accidents across the country caused by defective tires. We recently handled a case very similar to this where an over-the-road trucker was traveling through Arizona when his tire failed just as he approached an overpass. The sudden tire failure caused the driver to lose control, and his truck careened onto the road below. This caused the tractor-trailer to explode, leading to the death of an innocent man. We helped the surviving family identify the true cause of the tire failure and held the manufacturer of the tire responsible for the innocent loss of life caused by its defective product.

This is only one of many examples that our firm is currently handling. We are handling cases involving defective truck tires in Arizona, California, South Carolina, Illinois, Texas, New Mexico, and Utah, among other states. This is a big problem that deserves more attention from regulators and lawyers alike. Sending a trucker across the country with tires that cannot withstand the drive is negligent and will continue to lead to severe injuries and death.

To fix this problem, we need to hold manufacturers accountable for the deaths they cause. Accountability leads manufacturers to implement higher safety standards, more oversight, and to invest in technologies that produce better tires.
