Lee Hafer Killed and Others Suffer Injuries After a Semi-truck Loses Two Tires on Interstate 75 in Scott County, Kentucky

Scott County, KY – A truck driver was killed and others injured when a semi-trailer lost two of its tires. The incident happened around 2 a.m. on Interstate 75 in Scott County.

According to preliminary reports, a northbound semi-truck lost two of its tires. The tires crossed the median into the southbound lane, with one tire striking the windshield of another semi-trailer and the other striking an SUV. On impact, the SUV veered into a field.

The truck driver, Lee Hafer, was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV had several occupants who had to be transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

This accident caused a secondary collision where a deputy and an EMA worker both sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

No additional details have been released.

Those injured and killed deserve full justice

Some may look at this and say it was a freak accident that no one could have predicted. That is not true. When people maintain, inspect, and repair their vehicles properly, tires do not fall off, and this type of crash does not happen.

Unfortunately, we are seeing more and more innocent people killed because this basic rule of safety is not being followed.  Our firm is currently handling a case in Texas where a tire dislodged from a trailer and crashed through our client’s windshield, resulting in his immediate death. We are handling another case in Illinois where a rear tire came off a car and crashed through the driver’s side window of a tractor-trailer, immediately killing our client.

This is a huge issue that must be addressed on our roadways. Innocent people are losing their lives at no fault of their own. We must do more to ensure trucking companies and motorists are properly maintaining and inspecting their vehicles before travel. This starts by holding those responsible for failing to maintain their vehicles responsible for the crashes they cause.
