Man Dies from Electrocution in an Industrial Accident in Hardin, Texas

Hardin, Texas — A 22-year-old man from Baytown died after being electrocuted in a work-related accident. The incident happened Tuesday at a property off Private Road 171C, near FM 2830.

According to reports, the worker was delivering supplies to a tree-trimming crew employed by R & R Pipeline Company when he came into contact with live electric lines while handling a forklift holding up a tree. He was electrocuted through contact with the forklift.

Emergency responders transported the man to Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after arrival.

Entergy Texas linemen were dispatched to the site to shut down power while authorities conducted their investigation.

No further details have been provided.

Thoughts on fatal work-related electrocutions

No one should ever have to work in a place where they are at constant risk of losing their lives. Of course, some jobs come with more hazards than others. However, this is no excuse for compromised safety measures. The more dangerous the work, the more safety procedures should be established to protect workers.

Employers can prevent many work-related fatalities by taking the time to eliminate the risk. Companies that profit from someone else’s work need to ensure workers understand hazards and are well-equipped with information and tools to keep them safe before sending them to work in high-risk areas. When employers fail at this, and someone dies, they should be held accountable for their wrongdoing.

A young man lost his life while trying to make a living. The least one can do for the surviving family is provide them with a thorough investigation that provides answers to what went wrong and who is responsible.
