Met-Ed Contract Worker Electrocuted and Killed in Lebanon County in Cornwall, Pennsylvania

Thoughts on workplace accidents

Many workers risk their lives to bring us the accommodations and comforts we enjoy daily, like this worker who sadly died installing fiber optic cable. Employers must do more to protect their workers: the more dangerous the work, the more safety procedures they should have.

Several factors can lead to on-the-job electrocutions. OSHA emphasizes the importance of comprehensive training and strict enforcement of safe work habits to reduce these risks. Adhering to safety protocols, such as exercising caution around live wires, powering down equipment before maintenance, and maintaining tools and equipment properly, is essential to prevent similar incidents in the future. Were these safety protocols followed here?

Only a thorough investigation can determine whether the proper safety procedures were in place and whether everyone followed them. If negligence or wrongdoing is found, it is important that those who failed to keep the worker safe be held accountable.

May the surviving family find the answers they deserve.
