One Person Injured in an Accident with a Semi-truck Loaded with Cattle on U.S. 287 and FM 119 in Dumas, Texas

Dumas, Texas – One person was injured when their passenger car and a semi-truck collided. The incident happened Thursday morning at the intersection of U.S. 287 and FM 119.

According to reports, a JBS cattle truck was exiting Dumas Cattle Feeders with a load of cattle when it failed to yield the right of way to traffic, and a passenger vehicle traveling on U.S. 287 struck it.

Emergency medical personnel transported the driver of the passenger vehicle to an Amarillo hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No further details have been released.

People injured in truck crashes need trained lawyers to fight for them

Large trucks cannot afford to disregard basic safety rules. When trucks must yield or give the right of way, like when exiting into the flow of traffic, truckers need to constantly check their mirrors and be aware of their surroundings, especially in areas with low visibility. Did this happen here? Truck drivers should face accountability when they fail to do this and cause serious harm to others.

Many times, in accidents like this one, trucking companies may also share accountability for their truckers’ actions. Trucking companies have a duty to train their drivers on safety, provide up-to-date trucks with proper visibility, and vet their drivers for red flags on their records. Surprisingly, many companies fail to follow these safety steps. When companies fail to do this, and their truckers cause harm on the road, the company needs to share accountability.

A thorough investigation can determine all negligent parties that caused this accident. With this information, all responsible parties can be held accountable, and the injured can receive the compensation they need to recover.
