Woman Fatally Struck by Semi-truck While Warning Drivers of Earlier Crash on Interstate 10 East in Comfort, Texas

COMFORT, Texas — A woman was struck and killed by a semi-truck after attempting to alert motorists of an earlier crash. The incident happened Monday morning on I-10 Eastbound in Comfort.

According to the Texas Highway Patrol, a pickup truck and an 18-wheeler initially crashed. A woman stopped to assist with traffic control, warning approaching motorists to reduce their speed when an 18-wheeler traveling eastbound swerved onto the center median in an attempt to evade the previous collision, fatally striking the woman.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The initial crash is believed to have been caused by foggy conditions and excessive speed.

No further details have been released.

Thoughts on semi-truck accidents

What a tragic accident with so many missing pieces. Who caused the initial crash? What are 18-wheelers doing out on the roadways in poor weather conditions? Trucks should not be on the roadways in inclement weather.

The surviving family deserves answers. They need to know what happened and hold all those responsible for the passing of their loved one.

May the surviving family find the answers they need.
