Workplace accidents need to be investigated to ensure surviving families receive answers and justice

Many people might think workplace accidents are just part of the job and can’t be stopped, especially when they see how many happen. In 2022, 2.3 million work-related injuries required medical attention, and 5,486 fatal work injuries occurred (Bureau of Labor Statistics). However, no one should have to go to work and suffer a serious, life-changing injury or death, changing their life and their family’s life forever.

One important way employers can keep their workers safe is by having safety procedures in place. This is especially true for hazardous jobs, like the one here where workers deal with electrical equipment. Several factors can lead to on-the-job electrocutions. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), it’s essential to train all workers and ensure everyone follows safety rules to reduce these dangers. Things like being careful near live wires, turning off equipment before fixing it, using insulation, guarding, grounding, and making sure electrical protective devices are in good shape are key to stopping accidents like this from happening again. Were these safety rules followed in this case?

Anyone profiting from someone else’s work needs to find and prepare for any dangers at the worksite so the people counting on them come home safe to their families every night. When this does not happen, those responsible for any harm should be held accountable for their wrongdoing.

If any negligence or wrongdoing comes to light, the surviving family deserves answers and justice for the immeasurable loss and life-altering changes they have to face.
