Carlos Zamora Dies in Single Vehicle Rollover in Unincorporated Antioch

UNINCORPORATED ANTIOCH, Ill. – A Wauconda man died Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in unincorporated Antioch.Ā Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash at West Grass Lake Road and Broadway Avenue around 1:10 p.m.

A 37-year-old man was driving a GMC Sierra westbound on West Grass Lake Road when, for unknown reasons, he left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and rolled over.

Bystanders removed the man from the vehicle before deputies arrived. He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Carlos Zamora.

GMC Sierra Rollover Deaths Raise Serious Questions About Vehicle Safety Design

When someone dies in a rollover crash, the focus shouldn’t be solely on what caused the vehicle to roll – but rather on why the rollover proved fatal. Modern vehicles should be designed to protect occupants during rollover crashes, yet we continue to see deaths that could have been prevented with proper safety design.

In GMC Sierra trucks specifically, we have handled numerous cases where the roof structure wasn’t strong enough to maintain survival space during a rollover sequence. This is unacceptable, as the technology to build roofs that can withstand rollover forces has existed for decades. Additionally, safety systems like seatbelts and side curtain airbags must work together to keep occupants properly restrained and protected throughout the entire rollover event.

Mr. Zamora’s family deserves to know if his death could have been prevented. Was the roof structure adequately reinforced? Did all safety systems function as designed? Did the passenger compartment maintain its structural integrity throughout the rollover? A thorough investigation by qualified experts can answer these crucial questions. If vehicle defects contributed to Mr. Zamora’s fatal injuries, his family may have the right to hold the manufacturer accountable for their devastating loss.
